  3. About the ArchiCAD Extension "Atlantis Render Out"

  6. ••• What is Atlantis?
  7.  
  8. Atlantis is a photorealistic rendering system by Abvent SA, France. It consists of two applications: Vision to set projection and lighting characteristics, and Render to attach materials to surfaces and to make the final rendered image.

  11. ••• What does "Atlantis Render Out" do?

  13. With this ArchiCAD Extension properly installed, you can save 3D models of your projects in the Atlantis Render file format.

  15. The document you save will include the following information:
  16.  
  17.     • 3D model geometry:
  18.  
  19.            All surfaces.
  20.            No edges in the Atlantis format.
  21.  
  22.     • Surface materials:
  23.  
  24.            All materials used in the project, including the name and the characteristics.

  26.     • Light sources:

  28.            Both the sun and the additional light sources are included.

  30.     • 3D Projection:

  32.            The current perspective settings are included.

  36.            The current image size set in the PhotoRendering Settings/Image Size & Background dialog box of ArchiCAD is included.

  40.            The current shadow casting setup in the PhotoRendering Settings/Effects dialog box of ArchiCAD is included.

  48. ••• How to work with "Atlantis Render Out"?

  50.     • In ArchiCAD, set up a perspective view.
  51.  
  52.     • With the 3D window at the front, choose Save as… from the File menu.
  53.  
  54.     • In the Save as dialog box pop-up menu, choose the Atlantis document format, and click the Save button.

  56.     • Open the resulting document in Atlantis Render.
  57.  
  58.     • Attach shaders to the different surfaces of the model, and make a rendering when finished.

  65.     • Perspectives only.

  67. Atlantis Render works with perspective projections only. If you try to save an axonometric or orthogonal view in Atlantis format, you will be notified by an alert box.

  69.     • Light source required.

  71. Atlantis Render requires the presence of at least a single light source, either the Sun or a lamp. If both light source types are switched off in the PhotoRendering Settings/Effects dialog box in ArchiCAD, you will be notified by an alert box.

  73.     • Atlantis Vision will not open the document.
  74.  
  75. Vision is a front end to Render. It opens different 3D document formats and adds lighting and perspective definitions, then it saves a document for Render in its special file format.

  77. The document you save from ArchiCAD has this special format as well. It includes all lighting and perspective information you would otherwise edit with Vision.
